New York Shitty

Is it just me or does everyone avoid certain areas of Manhattan when getting from place to place? I don’t know one sane-person that would opt to walk on 14th Street, even if it ultimately puts them closer to their destination. 14th Street is known for stores such as Party City, Big D and a slew of seedy pawn shops and electronics retailers. There are also a few stores that actually specialize in selling garbage. How any of these places stay in business is beyond me. My last memory of this lovely crosstown street entails a woman vomiting on the glass doors while exiting Taco Bell about 4 years ago. It was at that exact moment that my relationship with 14th Street ended forever. 23rd Street and Chambers Street are also included on my list of streets to avoid. Chambers Street is like the 14th Street of Lower Manhattan. It is crowded, filled with run-down storefronts and overall just really unpleasant. Walking on 23rd Street is probably the most tolerable out of all of these areas but one must watch out for strung-out heroin addicts on their way to the methadone clinic. In addition to these areas, Times Square trumps them all. There is nowhere in the city more crowded, more unpleasant and more filthy than this tourist-trap of an area. I often feel genuinely sorry for tourists who travel from all parts of the world to take a glimpse at this sad representation of what New York actually is. New York has so much to offer but there are just certain places where you shouldn’t walk - not because their unsafe but because there just downright degenerate.
