How Social Media has Single-Handedly Made Us All Better at What We Do.
Just a little insight on a few occurances, brought to you by one of AIGA's many twitters
The medium of social media has been expanding at an exponential rate. The population of facebook exceeds entire nations. With this new medium people are free to share their ideas, works, and tutorials. With this wide platform, many are able to learn new trades via a 10 minute video on youtube, learn of 5 networking events occurring within our field of study via, and then be able to document the post via a blog. The Artist's social media platform, Behance, has spread an increased awareness into the other parts of the world and shares their design aesthetic. It is a strong method to promote one's work and gain an increased exposure, while also being able to inspire new artists to thrive off of their designs and continue to evolve into an entirely new direction.
The utilization of social media is able to benefit others than just artists, as there are many tutorials and social media engines dedicated to assisting working professionals in all fields of study. Businessmen are able to network and gain access to new ventures through Linkedin, Carpenters are able to learn new methods in which they are able to work through eHow, and Socialites have the ability to acknowledge their popularity through twitter. With a continually growing database of how-to's, how-I-did-its, and more the world of social media will continue to alter the way we work, and who is able to see it.
