Social media & Blogging have
made a huge impact in our society today. Not only has it
affected our personal
lives, in the way that we act and think, but it is has also changed the
way organizations go about promoting their goods and services. In the last couple
of years,
firms have started using them to promote their products and brands,
by keeping customers in
the loop about new promotions, products and contests
& competitions. This informal
relationship between businesses and potential
clients is very beneficial, especially for high
end brands as it makes them
seem less intimidating, therefore bridging the gap between
those unequally distributed with wealth.
With the rise of social media
and self-publishing online, many consequences arise. While
this new form of
technology is a great way for people to share their thought and express their
ideas, and for businesses to promote their new ventures, the problem of clutter
and excess
information has come about. Since the virtual world is essentially
our modern day public
sphere, compared to earlier mediums such as newspapers
and market places, this online
space is, in most cases, free of charge. As a
result, there are huge amounts of information
bring bombarded at people, and
while research has shown that marketing through social
media can greatly
increase sales and boost brand recoginition, many people still prefer more
traditional ways of marketing. This includes TV and magazine adverts, and consumers
feel
that these paid forms of advertising and marketing are more reliable and
less likely to be
‘spam’, compared to those seen over the internet.
