Breaking Your Way Into An Art Career

In today's world, people have realized that becoming a doctor, engineer, lawyer, etc. are not something they aspire to be anymore. Even though we are still in a hard economic climate, people are taking the risk of having a stable career for something they are more passionate about. Artists are popping up right and left. The art world used to be a very small industry that was extremely hard to get noticed in, but today people from all over are becoming "artists".

As a photography major graduating from one of the top leading art schools in the nation, I find myself contemplating on how I am going to become noticed out of possibly millions of people from all over the world trying to take a picture. I cannot be at a million places at once, meeting everyone in the industry and becoming friends with gallery owners, museum curators, magazine editors, etc. Therefore to get my work out there to a mass audience, I have decided to use social media. With everyone having this same source of marketing at their finger tips it is hard to find ways to differentiate yourself, but right now it seems like it is all we can do to get noticed. That is why facebook, google+, website, twitter and anything else I can get my work on will help me and help many other artists get their work in front of people. It seems crazy to think that all you can do is post and then wait to hear something. But as long as you are getting your working out their, one can only sit back and wait to be discovered.
